Former Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher has shed some light on why he hated playing against Arsenal so much.
Liverpool’s record against the Gunners isn’t great and, according to the pundit, it meant he learnt to hate playing against us.
“Villa Park was a ground I liked because you always like where you win, even at Stamford Bridge our results were not too bad,” he said.
“But Arsenal was always the killer for us, especially at Highbury and then at the Emirates our record was really poor.”
Highbury was renowned for being a difficult ground to go to and although the Emirates isn’t quite at that level yet, we’re getting there. It’s good to see other respected players admitting that they feared traveling to us.
Developing your home ground into a fortress is one of the first steps to being successful in the Premier League. If you can win all your home games, the rest will start to follow.
The team also earns the support of the home fans as it gives them something to cheer about. When you look at other grounds in Europe, a good home atmosphere and decent results usually go hand-in-hand and it’d be useful to learn from them.
