With Mathieu Debuchy looking as if he’s making a run for the exit, Arsenal are reportedly looking at his replacement.
One of the players we’ve apparently got lined up is Shakhtar Donetsk captain Darijo Srna. The 33-year-old right-back has been at the Croatian club for 12 years, which is a long ol’ time in footballing terms.
However, if reports are to be believed, we’re looking at him to replace Debuchy, who’s been nudged out of the Arsenal first team by Bellerin.
The veteran has already made 24 appearances for Shakhtar this season and even scored four goals, which isn’t bad going for an aging right-back. Therefore, having him in the squad might actually be a good bit of business, especially if we get him cheap.
At this point in time, we’re not looking for a replacement for Bellerin but having back-up once Debuchy inevitably skips off is essential. Although we do have Chambers, he’s not ready to be a proper stand-in if Bellerin was to get badly injured and it looks as if the defender is currently experimenting with different positions (oo-eer). Therefore, we have to look elsewhere for the answer.
