Arsenal didn’t exactly play horrifically against Bayern Munich but at the end of the day we just weren’t any match for their brilliance.

It’s hard to say because when Arsenal lose, I always want to feel hard done by or at least be able to moan about our performance but against Bayern, although we probably could have defended better and had more pace on the break, we were just simply outplayed.

Petr Cech – 6

Despite the 5-1 scoreline, the goalkeeper could have been our best player, which says a lot. He pulled off a great save from point blank range in the 17th minute and another amazing save in the 42nd.

Mathieu Debuchy – 4

The full back did little to prevent their second goal and generally continued to frustrate everyone.

Per Mertesacker – 4.5

The centre back was caught ball watching for first goal and wasn’t completely blameless for second either.

Gabriel – 5

The defender looked keen but his positioning wasn’t great.

Nacho Monreal – 5.5

The Spaniard was another one of our more solid players.

Francis Coquelin – 5.5

Coquelin was looked feisty but still wasn’t quite good enough to keep the Germans out.

Santi Cazorla – 5

The midfielder wasn’t at his best and missed a huge chance in the second half.

Joel Campbell – 4.5

Unfortunately the forward wasn’t quite as good as his performance against Swansea. Perhaps he’s tired as he’s not used to the game time or perhaps he’s just not that great against tough opposition.

Mesut Ozil – 5.5

He made a great finish but the goal was ruled out for hand ball, even though it was off his elbow…

Alexis – 5

The forward looked a bit leggy and should really have been taken off earlier.

Olivier Giroud – 5.5

Although he didn’t have huge amounts to do, he gifted us a consolation goal.
