Petr Čech entered the international break knowing he was likely to equal Karel Poborsky’s record of appearances for the Czech Republic.

However, the 33-year-old was denied the chance to win a record equalling 118th cap for his country in front of his own fans as Czech Republic comfortably beat Serbia 4-1 in Ostrava on Friday evening.

You would have expected the Arsenal goalkeeper and Czech Republic captain to be awarded with the record cap on an evening in front of his own fans, but he and nearly 15,000 Czechs would have been left a little disappointed with Čech only making the bench.

He should be reinstated to play against Poland in a friendly on Tuesday night. Before then, feel free to check (no pun intended) the video below, where he demonstrates and explains what it takes to reach the very top.
