As we all do our best to cope without proper football during the last international break of the year, Nacho Monreal has been speaking about how he believes Arsenal are set to end their title drought.

The Spaniard, who has been one of Arsenal’s best players over the past 12 months is severely underrated outside the club, rarely getting the plaudits some more inept players receive regularly. Making the left-back spot his own at the expense of Kieran Gibbs, Nacho’s form has been integral to Arsenal’s form over the past 12 months.

Speaking to the Sun, Nacho said I think the level of the team is better now and I hope we can do something special this season.

“At the moment, everything is right so we need to carry on.

“I will say that we are playing more compact, like a unit. The players are playing with more solidarity, all players try to defend. I think this is the [reason for] that.

“We have won the Community Shield, we are second in the Premier League with the same points as Manchester City.”

Topping the table at Christmas in 2013/14, Nacho knows that the side need to avoid a repeat of the collapse they suffered in the second half of that season, ending up in fourth place.

“We need to learn from that,” Monreal added. “I remember it very well because we finished the first half of the season [near the top].

“In the second half, we lost a lot of games so we need to learn about that. I think the team is different now. We have different players and are more competitive.”
