Following Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Everton, Arsene Wenger revealed that after such an intense week, he’d have to rest some players against Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Arsenal have beaten Watford, Bayern Munich and now Everton in the space of a week and it showed today against the Blues, particularly in the second half. Although we managed to keep hold on to the win, we looked laggy and a little sloppy at times.

The boss believes Tuesday’s Capital One Cup match against Championship side Sheffield Wednesday is the perfect opportunity to give some of his senior team a rest.

“It is a perfect week,” he said. “It is not easy to have that. I will have to rest some players on Tuesday night.”

Wenger is known for fielding a mixed team in our league matches, giving our younger, fringe players a chance at getting some competitive game time.

Although it’s still early in the season, our players have been run ragged in the last week and giving them a week to prepare for our next Premier League fixture against Swansea is a sensible move.
