Petr Cech pulled off a couple of great saves in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Bayern Munich and Arsene Wenger believes he was a hugely important part of the victory.

Having a world class goalkeeper like Cech between the sticks really paid off against Bayern in the Champions League on Tuesday night as the Czech Republic international kept us in the game.

Fortunately, the rest of the team was on hand to do the business at the other end of the pitch.

However, the boss was also full of praise for the Bayern keeper.

Speaking after the match, Wenger made is clear just how important Cech was for us during the win, and highlighted Manuel Neuer as a key player for the Bundesliga team. The German pulled off at least two unreal saves – one of which denying Theo Walcott a header from close range.

“[Cech] was important,” the boss said.

“I think he kept us in the game and you can say the same for Neuer. We had two top, top, top world-class keepers on the pitch today and that of course was vital on both sides.”

Wenger is now seeing why everyone wanted Cech to start ahead of Ospina in our previous matches against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos. Although I imagine he was well aware of the 33-year-old’s ability before now.
