Louis van Gaal has come out with some intriguing quotes ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United in the league on Sunday.

The Dutchman was full of praise for the Gunners. In fact, he said we were technically and tactically the best team in the league, which is a little strange considering his own team sit top while we’re fourth.

“Arsenal are technically and tactically the best team in the league,” he said. “Nevertheless, they haven’t won so much, so you have to look for that improvement with that team.”

The manager admitted he’s also wary of an Arsenal comeback following our defeat to Olympiacos.

“We are happy but I think Arsenal can come back from a defeat,” Van Gaal said. “They have shown that a lot of times.”

I’m not sure whether the Red Devils’ manager’s quotes are sincere or whether he’s trying to lull us into a false sense of security. It’s unusual for opposition bosses to appear quite to pessimistic ahead of a big game.

However, Van Gaal has shown he’s not afraid to criticise his own team in the past. Therefore, maybe he’s trying to pressure his men into performing at the Emirates on Sunday.
