Mesut Özil struck his second goal of the season deep into injury time on Tuesday night to give Arsenal all three points against Bayern Munich.

The midfielder has been criticised at times since he arrived at Arsenal but is in fantastic form right now. A memorable celebration showed just how much it means to a player often called out for the effort he puts in.

Two goals and six assists by mid-October, Özil has insisted he’s feeling comfortable at Arsenal now.

“I’m really satisfied with my performances,” the German said after a tiring game. “I’m on a good way, I feel at ease and you can see that the team and the manager give me their trust.”

Bayern controlled the ball throughout the match, but Arsenal matched them with an organised defensive block. The German champions struggled to find a way through and, when they did, were met by Petr Čech in formidable form.

At the other end, Manuel Neuer kept the scores level with great saves in the first half. Despite having less of the ball, Arsenal had more than their fair share of the chances.

“But ultimately I think we deserved to win. They had more possession but we had the clearer chances and that’s why we’re really pleased to have got the three points today,” Özil insisted. The win was a huge one after the Gunners had lost the opening two group games, hopefully now we can recover to qualify for the knockout rounds.

“Today was our last chance – we had to win. We did that and now we’re back in the game. We’re all the happier for that.

“We showed heart and the fans supported us superbly. The most important thing is the three points.”

Alive in the Champions League and two points from top spot in the Premier League, things aren’t too bad. With Mesut Özil performing consistently, there’s nothing Arsenal can’t achieve this season.
