All summer long Arsenal were linked with a move for Karim Benzema, but the attention is now turning to his international team-mate Antoine Griezmann.

The versatile 24-year-old can play anywhere across the front three or in attacking midfield and has been incredibly impressive since joining Atlético Madrid in 2014.

After netting 25 goals in his first season for Diego Simeone’s side, Griezmann has already scored six goals since the start of the new campaign. This is all despite the fact he isn’t used as an out-and-out striker.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal will have to fork out €45m if they want the player, whose stock has only risen since he left Real Sociedad for €30m just over a year ago. At 24 he has plenty of scope for improvement, while his versatility, pace and intelligent movement off the ball all make him well suited to Arsène Wenger’s side.

However, it seems an unlikely deal. Should Atlético become open to selling him, Griezmann would probably be wanted by the likes of Chelsea and PSG – could Arsenal really outspend them? With Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil arguably playing in his best positions, it’s not a deal that the Gunners urgently need to make.

Griezmann is capable of brilliant moments, like the goal he scored on Sunday (below), but Arsenal may not be willing to spend such a huge sum of money on a player who would only ‘arguably’ improve on what we already have.
