Young Gedion Zelalem has been named in the USA’s Olympic qualifying tournament squad.
The 18-year-old who is currently enjoying a successful loan spell at Scottish Championship side Rangers has only appeared five times for the USA u20s. However, before applying for US citizenship in December ’14, he played 11 times in various stages of Germany’s youth squads.
The midfielder was born in Germany but lived in Maryland, US for six years before joining Arsenal. FIFA then cleared him to play for the US in May ’15.
The call-up is a big step in the youngster’s career.
Here’s how the rest of the USA’s squad lines up.
