Arsenal youngster Donyell Malen trained with the first team on the eve of the Champions League clash against Olympiacos.

The versatile striker played with the first team at London Colney but is not eligible to play on Tuesday night, instead likely to feature in the UEFA Youth League game for the u19s.

Malen arrived from Ajax this summer but has not yet played in an Arsenal shirt as there were delays with FIFA ratifying the decision. Also on Monday, Yassin Fortuné tweeted that he has been given a squad number. The 16-year-old Frenchman arrived from RC Lens with Jeff Reine-Adelaide and, with Danny Welbeck out, maybe he could be given a shot in the League Cup?

The summer saw Arsenal step up recruitment in the youth teams and it’s exciting to see the club already bedding in these talents. There are high hopes that Malen, Fortuné, Reine-Adelaide and Vlad Dragomir have huge ability and Arsenal is, generally, the right place to get that out of players.

Before the season’s out, we may well see one or two of the teenagers given their first chance to impress.
