Arsenal let in three goals against Olympiacos on Tuesday night in the Champions League but Arsene Wenger thinks a lot of this was down sheer lack of luck.

Unlucky is one word, shocking is another. What appeared to be an own goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as he turned his back to the ball and Ospina dropping the ball over our goal line weren’t just unlucky. It showed ineptitude and naivety – nothing new for this Arsenal team.

Although Wenger admitted that our defence was ‘open’, he also said that he thinks we were unlucky.

“We lacked defensive concentration,” he said. “We had a bit of bad luck as well and had a difficult start

“We were open defensively because we attacked and went forward.”

The thing about luck is, is that it’s usually random. When you’re consistently letting in ridiculous goals over and over again at home, this isn’t down to lack of luck. We have to look at ourselves, not fate.

For a while, everyone thought we were over our defensive woes but now, for whatever reason, they’re back and it doesn’t matter how amazing our attack is, if we’re conceding stupid goals we won’t go anywhere.
