When Fenerbahce’s interest in Mesut Ozil began to gain momentum in the summer, many assumed that the midfielder wouldn’t even entertain the idea of leaving Arsenal for the Turkish team.
The rumour caused a knee-jerk reaction and most Gooners instantly assumed that there was no truth to the reports. Although it was clear the interest from the Turkish team was real, the thought that he’d leave so soon was incomprehensible.
However, Ozil’s agent is now suggesting that the playmaker’s situation at Arsenal isn’t quite as black and white as it seems and the self-proclaimed Fenerbahce fan could well be assessing his position with the club come next summer.
“Fenerbahce are serious but it all depends on what answer Arsenal give. It will all become clear at the end of the season,” Erkut Sogut, Ozil’s agent, said.
Ozil’s current contract with the club reportedly takes him up to 2018. However, with many players, including Theo Walcott, recently negotiating new. shiny contracts, complete with pay rises, it’s possible that the German could just be looking for a better deal with us and not necessarily a move away.
Agents gets a substantial cut of players’ fees and it would be in both Ozil and his agent’s best interest to make it appear that he could leave for Turkey as soon as our backs are turned, but the reality is, it’s unlikely that Ozil will go anywhere any time soon.
