During the summer, Arsenal were linked with Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez.
The Leicester City man probably didn’t excite too many fans when they came across the rumours, would Arsenal really be looking to sign a player from Leicester to add creativity to the side?
Five Premier League games later and Mahrez has four Premier League goals and two assists to his name in mid-September. What a start to the new season for the Algerian, and it is hardly a surprise that reports are emerging from the likes of the Metro and the Express that Arsenal will look at him again in January.
Mahrez will be linked to plenty more big clubs if he keeps up this form, and has struck a chord with Arsène Wenger, even agreeing with the Arsenal manager on where he developed his abilities.
The winger has said his skills were honed on the streets, while Wenger has been insisting that the very best players are formed that way now, usually pointing to South America to prove his point.
With rumours that the Arsenal manager has been keen on Mahrez before these links have some weight behind them, but Leicester aren’t short on money. Would Mahrez be a starter for the Gunners? If not, it’s hard to see Arsenal paying the sort of fee Leicester would surely demand.
