Alex Iwobi has had a day or two to remember.

The 19-year-old, still awaiting his debut for the Arsenal first team, was on the bench for Wednesday night’s win over Tottenham Hotspur.

As being part of a north London derby success wasn’t enough, the attacking midfielder has now received his first international call-up from Nigeria.

Iwobi’s uncle is the famous Jay-Jay Okocha, who played for Bolton Wanderers and won 75 caps for the Super Eagles.

Earlier this years Iwobi spoke about his decision to play for Nigeria, saying, “My dad too has told me a lot of things about the honour and pride that goes with playing for Nigeria.

“So I thought a lot about this and decided to play for Nigeria.”

Now the teenager, who scored against Lyon in the Emirates Cup during pre-season has that opportunity.

The games he’s been called up for are in October, with Nigeria facing Congo and Cameroon in friendlies.

Before then Iwobi will return to the Arsenal u21 team but, should there be any injuries to players used wide for the first team, he is close to the squad and can’t be far away from receiving his first appearance for Arsène Wenger.
