“This team has a special mental strength.”

“We need to show mental strength.”

“That comes from good mental strength.”

How many times has Arsène Wenger, pre or post match, referred to the mental strength of his players? He’s called upon it, he’s criticised a lack of it, he’s said that it is there. But how many times?

Thanks to the excellent @LWIMTH you can actually how often the boss has used his favourite two words since the 1999 season ended until the current one began. (Really, check out www.lookwhatitmeanstohim.com because there’s more great stuff there.)

Amazingly, the infographic shows exactly how many times the Arsenal boss has coined the term “mental strength” and, well, it’s about as often as you would think.

He loves to say it as the season starts to draw to a close, but isn’t so keen to bang on about it in the early stages of a campaign. Games against Spurs have inspired the most references to it, while some real superstars of the game have been hailed for having it.
