Isaac Hayden has revealed that before he joined Arsenal at the age of 14, Manchester United were interested in signing him, but there was only one team for him.
Hayden is currently on loan at Hull City and has made six appearances for them so far this season.
The 20-year-old has been hailed as one of Arsenal’s bright sparks and even idolised Patrick Vieira as a kid, which shows exactly the type of player he wants to develop into.
When Arsenal inquired about him when he was just 14, he jumped at the chance to join the ranks.
“I was 14 when I joined Arsenal. I’d been at Southend before from the age of under-10s,” he said. “We played Arsenal in a friendly at under-13s and they said they’d take me.
“They were my team growing up because my idol was Patrick Vieira. I always watched his game and studied what he did.”
Hayden revealed that the Gunners weren’t the only Premier League team interested in him – Manchester United were as well. However, the thought of joining the Red Devils didn’t even cross the youngster’s mind.
“As soon as I got the nod, and the choice between Manchester United and Arsenal, it was an easy decision,” he explained. “I said ‘Drive me there now!’ as soon as I knew they were interested. It felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Man United were keen but when you’re 13 and living in London with your parents, it was a no brainer.”
You can’t fault the lad, he’s clearly got a good head on his shoulders.
Before going out on loan, Hayden featured for the u21s 32 times, even grabbing himself two goals and five assists. However, injury prevented him from truly excelling. It’s good to see him getting some decent game time under his belt while out on loan.
