French journalist Philippe Auclair has defended Olivier Giroud after he missed a number of chances against Serbia on Monday night.
The Arsenal striker started for the French national team in the international friendly but couldn’t register on the scoresheet before being subbed off in the 62nd minute of his country’s 2-1 win.
After the game, the well respected journalist took to Twitter to complain of the insults being thrown around.
Giroud a-t-il ete matraquer des bebes phoques sur la banquise pour se faire massacrer de la sorte sur twitter? Ridicule.

“Has Giroud been clubbing baby seals to be slaughtered like this on Twitter? Ridiculous.”
The striker missed a good chance in the first half, but we all know that isn’t exactly what his game is about. Even for that particular chance his movement was spectacular and his hold up play along with his awareness and appreciation of space is excellent.
Meanwhile an excellent goal against Crystal Palace last month was the only one an Arsenal player managed in the Premier League in August. After four games he is still the only player to score for the Gunners.
Now, Giroud is not a clinical finisher but he is a very good goalscorer. For whatever reason, people just don’t seem to get that.
