The England u21s beat Norway 1-0 in their Euro qualifying match but Calum Chambers still wasn’t entirely happy with their performance.

Chambers got his fifth start for the Three Lions in the victory, which was sealed with a James Ward-Prowse goal in the 45th minute.

Despite grabbing all three points, the defender reckons the team could have played better and it was a tough game.

“We didn’t play as well as we wanted to play,” the 20-year-old said.

“But we don’t want to make excuses because we really fought hard for that result.

“It was a tough game, they were tough to play against, played some good football and had some good possession, hence why it was hard for us.”

Chambers added, “They’re a strong side, so we’re pleased to come away with the win in the end.”

Their next match comes in October against Kazakhstan, so the team have plenty of time to regroup and potentially achieve a higher goal tally next time.

Chambers himself is a little self-deprecating at times, and sometimes, especially straight after a match, he needs to focus on the positives rather than the negatives. There will be plenty of time between now and the next fixture to smooth over any cracks in their performance. However, at the moment, he should just enjoy another victory in a row for the team.
