With the transfer window closed, certain papers/sites already have their eyes trained on the next one and in Metro on Saturday morning we see claims that Edinson Cavani wants a move to Arsenal in January.

It’s a nice story, after all, who doesn’t want to hear that a world class striker wants to move to their club? He’s going to do ‘everything he can’ to push through a move, don’t ya know.

Just a few problems…

First up, it’s in the Metro and they’ve based their reports on a story in Fichajes which is just about one of the most unreliable and useless sites out there when it comes to getting transfer gossip actually right.

A Spanish site reporting ‘news’ about a Uruguay player who is currently at a French club who wants to join an English one? Why *wouldn’t* it be a Spanish site that broke the story?

But let’s pretend that, just this once, they might have hit upon something and that Cavani does actually want to move to Arsenal – what makes anyone think that Arsene Wenger will pay January’s even more inflated transfer fees for him when he wouldn’t part with the cash in the summer?

Let’s not forget that by that point Danny Welbeck should (I said ‘should’) be back and while I’m not saying that there is any comparison between Cavani and Welbz, I am highlighting that Arsenal’s need will be greatly reduced by that point.

No substance, no story.
