It was well documented over the summer that Arsenal were trying to sign Edinson Cavani.

Whether they actually were or not we will probably never know but it seems as if it is likely that they did at least make an enquiry.

Ahead of the Champions League getting underway this week, the press took the opportunity to ask the man himself if Arsenal had tried to get their hands on him and his refusal to give an answer, or, more specifically, his politicians answer, has left many in the media claiming that his refusal to deny must surely be an admission of truth.

Or something.

So what really happened?

Well, as we mentioned, Cavani was asked if it was true that he’d rejected Arsenal’s advances. This is what he said: “Many transfer opportunities presented themselves, but Paris Saint-Germain always trusted me.

“It’s the club that can give me what’s best for me.”

Is it a ‘yes’? Is it a ‘no’? It’s neither, it’s simply a refusal to be drawn into speculation.

But then that doesn’t generate too many clicks.

So let’s pretend it’s something else.
