Arsenal were linked with Karim Benzema all summer, but reports since the window closed have linked Arsène Wenger with a move for another Real Madrid man.
Attacking midfielder Isco has allegedly been attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester City, but the Express are now going one step further to report that he is subject of a formal approach from the Gunners.
Isco has not become the star he was expected to be since moving to Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, often used as a bit-part player and never integral to the side. With Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez in attacking midfield roles it was hard enough to compete and the Spanish giants have now added Mateo Kovačić to their ranks.
However, Isco has started two of their three La Liga games so far this season; maybe Rafa Benitez has big plans for him?
The attacking midfielder can also play wide, and that is where he is being used lately as Benitez looks to get Gareth Bale into the middle of the pitch. Interestingly, Arsenal are lacking wide creative players right now and don’t have a true backup for Mesut Özil’s number ten role. Could Isco be a realistic target?
It would make sense on some levels, but he’d be incredibly expensive and not a guaranteed starter. I, for one, would be very shocked to see this happen.
