Alan Smith has, rather oddly, described Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal as ‘freaky’.

Speaking to Arsenal Fan TV at John Cross’ book launch, the former Gunner praised the manager saying, “He’s going to go down as the greatest Arsenal manager ever isn’t he?

“To last as long as he has in the modern day is freaky really.

“I don’t think its going to happen many times in the future and certainly not many are going to achieve the success he has.”

Despite the strange choice of wording, Smith is right. Wenger is now the longest serving manager currently in the Premier League and if he chooses to stay on for another few years, he will overtake Sir Alex Ferguson.

Smith went on to talk about the difference between George Graham and Wenger’s managerial techniques. Graham was more structured and aggressive, whereas Wenger is measured and allows players to express themselves.
