Arsene Wenger was impressed by the team’s ability to grind out a victory against Crystal Palace.

The Gunners fought hard against the London rivals, who have proven to be stiff opposition on home soil recently, and despite Palace equalising shortly after we’d gone 1-0 ahead, we came back to score again and go home with all three points.

Speaking after the match, Wenger praised his team’s tenacity and explained how our reaction to their equalising goal, would be the real test – especially after our poor result against West Ham in the opening match of the season.

“We have shown our strong response and we have shown different aspects in our game that are vital in the Premier League,” he said. “We had a good, fluent game in the first half and when they came back to 1-1 it was a mental test to see how we could respond.

“We managed to find a second goal and after that in the second half of the game we just had to dig in, fight, and we did it as well.”

He added, “I’m pleased because we have shown many different aspects that will be very important in the season.”

Although we did play some beautiful football, there were some nervy moments at the back, with players getting in each other’s way and miscommunication, which I’d hoped we’d knocked on the head last season. Hopefully this is just down to anxiety after last week and we’ll get back into our normal, solid swing of things soon enough.

The boss seems happy and we won, so that’s all that matters right now.
