According to Turkish paper Vatan, Galatasaray are planning a late move for Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.

The Costa Rican is surplus to requirements in north London but, after negotiaitons with Palermo fell down, it looked as though he would have to stay at the Emirates Stadium for the start of the new season.

Now the Turkish Super Lig could be an option, if the current champions make the rumoured move. They have already signed Lukas Podolski from Arsenal this summer, and Campbell could be the latest player to join them as the transfer window reaches its climax.

Many believe Arsenal are in need of a new striker, but selling Campbell will not be seen as a loss. Even last season he was sent out on loan, scoring just once despite featuring regularly for Villarreal. A move to Galatasaray would cost around €7m according to the report, but Arsenal were asking Palermo for more than that just a couple of weeks ago.

After an encouraging World Cup a year ago it comes as some surprise that there isn’t more interest in the player, but his middling record in professional football has put off most potential suitors.
