Could Nacho Monreal be leaving Arsenal?

The potential transfer of Monreal to Athletic Bilbao baffles me. The Spaniard is currently getting first team football, week in, week out at one of the world’s top clubs – why would he want to leave?

Recently, there was talk of the 29-year-old entering negotiations for a new three-year-deal with us, with his current contract running out in 2016. However, Arsene Wenger has since denied these negotiations are taking part.

The left-back has also insisted that he’s happy in north London, and that all he wants is to play as much as possible, which he currently is.

However, the links with Bilbao don’t seem to be going away, with reports claiming that the Spanish club are hopeful that they’ll be able to complete the transfer for the full-back.

In my humble opinion, Monreal would be a fool to leave and I don’t see it happening, not in the form he’s in. Wenger wants to keep our squad together and he wouldn’t just suddenly turn his back on that now.
