Following his first call-up to the England u21 squad, Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom has had to withdraw due to injury.

We are entering the first international break of the season and Akpom has impressed on loan at Hull City. He’s started all five Championship games this season, scoring on the opening day before netting once again in the League Cup against Accrington Stanley.

The England u21 side face USA u23s and Norway u21s and Akpom was called up for the first time, but has had to pull out of the squad due to an injury. It’s quite a blow for the player who, after finally scoring his first professional goals, had a real chance to impress.

The England u21s no longer have Harry Kane or Danny Ings and Saido Berahino was also overlooked, despite not making the full squad, so it would have given Akpom a huge opportunity to stake a claim for a key role in Gareth Southgate’s new look team.

One Arsenal man is still likely to be involved. Calum Chambers has been called up and will be with the squad throughout the international break. It’s incredibly likely that the 20 year-old will be first-choice in Southgate’s defence, so we hope he impresses.

You’ll be able to watch how Chambers gets on live on BT Sport this Thursday and next Monday before he returns to Arsenal later next week.
