West Ham’s goalkeeper, Adrian, has defended Petr Cech after the Hammers won 2-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.

Speaking to BT Sport, he explained that as a goalkeeper, if you so much as make a mistake you’re the “worst keeper”, or alternatively you can be the hero.

However, the 28-year-old believes Cech is still one of the best keepers in the world and that he was simply having an off day.

Adrian has a point. Unlike outfield players who are having an off day, in goal you can either make a save or let in a goal. You can’t make up for a poor decision by chasing the ball and playing out of your skin, like, for example, a midfielder could.

All you can do between the sticks is stand there and wait to redeem yourself and if you don’t get the chance to, the loss could be placed on your shoulders.

Cech is undoubtably one of the best goalkeepers in the world and I’m sure he’ll bounce back from this.
