In typical Arsene Wenger style, the boss has managed to neither confirm or deny our interest in Karim Benzema.

Reports that the Real Madrid forward could be on his way to Arsenal for as much as £40.5m are doing the rounds and Sky Bet has slashed the odds of the 27-year-old coming to the Emirates to 11/10.

On Tuesday, the forward also posted a picture of himself on a private jet with the caption translating as, “leave the past in the past“. Naturally this sparked a fan – and media – frenzy but it still remains to be seen whether he was just having a bit of a laugh with us.

Naturally, quotes from Wenger ahead of our Community Shield match with Chelsea on Sunday have only added fuel to the fire as he didn’t deny or ‘promise‘ anything, simply echoing what he’s already said, that if we can add we will but we don’t need to.

“I don’t rule it out and I don’t promise it,” he said. “As I said recently in the press conferences, if we can still strengthen, we will do it.  But we have what is needed inside to be competitive, so let’s first focus on that.”

I don’t exactly know what to make of this. If we get Benzema, that’d be huge, in my opinion. However, I still can’t quite believe it.
