France, Spain, Greece, Spain. Where is Joel Campbell heading next?
The forward has been at the Gold Cup with Costa Rica this summer and missed out on Arsenal pre-season, but he was never likely to feature heavily for the Gunners in the new season anyway. Rumours have flown around all summer with the likes of Benfica and Besiktas chasing the forward but he won’t be heading to either of those, according to Gazette Dello Sport.
The Italian paper say that terms are close to being agreed between all parties for Campbell to go on a season-long loan with Serie A side Palermo. The Italian side have lost their star forward Paulo Dybala to Juventus and Campbell could be seen as a man to make up for some of the 10 goals and 13 assists that the Argentinian contributed during the 2014/15 campaign.
Gazzetta claim that representatives from the Italian club are in London now to broker a deal, which Campbell has already agreed to. After a promising World Cup last summer the 23 year-old underwhelmed for Arsenal before an unimpressive loan spell with Villarreal from January to the end of the season.
Maybe, unlike Lukas Podolski, a loan move to Italy can rekindle something and Arsenal can get a fee for him this time next year.
