Arsene Wenger has spoken to Arsenal Player about Hector Bellerin’s new contract and what led the boss to sign him up for five more years.

The boss admitted that although he’s happy with tying the right-back down to another long term deal, if you’d have asked him this time last year, he couldn’t have given you the same answer. Due to a breakthrough second half of last season, Bellerin has become invaluable to the club and has been taken his new role very seriously.

Hector Bellerin signs new Arsenal contract
Bellerin expressed his happiness at signing a new contract at Arsenal via his Twitter account.

Right from the beginning, when the 20-year-old was only 15, Wenger claims he saw something special in him. He hailed Bellerin’s hunger, passion and dedication to the game.

The manager went on to speak about the battle the youngster has on his hands to keep his place in the first team ahead of the experience Mathieu Debuchy saying that Bellerin ‘couldn’t rest‘ in order to remain top dog.

Most will be elated with the news that we’ve tied the defender down to another long term contract. He was a revelation last season and it’s only a matter of times before clubs start sniffing around for his signature. Hopefully this new contract is the start of more to come.
