After beating Lyon 6-0 during the Emirates Cup on Saturday, it appears we’re interested in signing their striker, Clinton N’Jie.

The 21-year-old, who played the full match against Arsenal on Saturday, has reportedly been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar for a while but, Arsenal, being the cheeky so-and-so’s we are, are supposedly about to swoop in and grab him from right under their noses.

The Cameroonian has played for the Ligue 1 team 43 times since joined in 2013 and only scored eight goals in that time – all of which came last season. Not exactly groundbreaking.

At the moment, we’d be far better off using someone we’ve already got, like Alex Iwobi, as back up, rather than buying someone a relatively unproven player for £7m.

Although I’ll admit that the u21 league is significantly different to Ligue 1, our young forward’s stats for last season are considerably better (11 goals in 25 appearances). Given the choice, if we’re not going to splash out on a striker, I don’t see the point of buying someone mediocre when we can give one of our own a chance.
