Wojciech Szczesny is set to complete a loan move to AS Roma but Italian agent Claudio Pasqualin has urged the Polish goalkeeper to stay at Arsenal.

Arsène Wenger even confirmed on Friday that moving to the Serie A club for a year is likely to benefit Szczesny more than sitting on the bench and training with Petr Čech but the Italian agent told TuttoMercatoWeb.com that the move would not be a good one for the goalkeeper.

“There is (Morgan) De Sanctis already there, who is very good,” said Pasqualin.

“How could you make him the reserve?”

Szczesny clearly isn’t moving to sit on the bench as he could do that at Arsenal, so he will surely play. Last season saw De Sanctis keep 16 clean sheets in 35 Serie A appearances, conceding just 26 goals in the process. However the former Napoli man is 38 years old and failed to keep a clean sheet in four Champions League appearances, conceding nearly three goals a game as Roma went out in the group stage.

“(Szczesny) is one you cannot buy, unless your purpose is to create a debate within the supporters,” Pasqualin continued.

“Let’s go get Sczczesny, but why? You have to have respect for the fans for this. But no.”

Maybe at De Sanctis’ age Roma just feel it is time to look for a younger goalkeeper? Sorry Mr. Pasqualin but it doesn’t seem likely that Arsenal are going to let Szczesny go unless he plays regularly.
