With Arsenal on the lookout for a midfielder it is a surprise that previous target Yohan Cabaye hasn’t been mentioned more often, and rivals Tottenham are now interested.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger chased the midfielder back in 2013 while he was at Newcastle and could be interested again with the Frenchman unsettled at Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Cabaye is proven in the Premier League after he impressed during three years at Newcastle United, and now it is being reported by the Mirror among others that Tottenham are looking to sign the 29 year-old midfielder.

Arsenal tested Newcastle’s resolve with a £10M bid in the summer of 2013 after Arsène Wenger identified him as the man to bolster his midfield.

The bid saw Cabaye refuse to play in Newcastle’s next game as he tried to force through a move, which he has since admitted he wanted to happen.

“I had wanted to play under Arsène Wenger last summer but unfortunately that was not the case,” admitted Cabaye last year.

If Arsenal are interested again surely Cabaye will move to us, but it doesn’t seem like we are.

Instead Tottenham are set to battle it out with fellow London side Crystal Palace, who are now managed by Alan Pardew who was Cabaye’s manager at Newcastle when Arsenal attempted to sign the midfielder.
