Earlier this week it was reported that Joel Campbell had reached an agreement that would see him join Fenerbahce next season.

The story in the Daily Star was based on one from the Turkish site Milliyet and it mentioned the meeting that Arsene Wenger and the Fenerbahce sporting director had recently, a meeting we also covered.

There was no mention about the deal being a loan or permanent, but Campbell himself has recently spoken about his willingness to go on yet another loan if that gives him the best chance of playing for Arsenal in the future.

Fast forward a few days and Mahmut Uslu, a board member with the Turkish side, has now stated that a transfer involving Campbell is not a priority for his side.

“We spoke with Pereira [Fener’s manager],” Uslu said, “and he does not see Joel Campbell as a priority he wants to work with winners.”

Ouch.

I don’t think many people believe that Joel will still be at Arsenal for the new season. Then again, not many of us thought we’d see him at the club at all.

His future is, however, very much still up in the air.
