The introduction of Jack Wilshere, amongst other changes, sparked Arsenal into life as we rescued a point form Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Wilshere was making his third substitute appearance in a row following an injury suffered against Manchester United in the return fixture back in November, and is hoping for more regular football both now and next season.

“It was an injury that I couldn’t do anything about.

“It was a tackle that put me out for four months and it was frustrating but I’ve been there before and I know what it takes to come back from injury, so I know the level you need to get back into the team.”

Wilshere seemed to have broken into the team at the start of the season but the successful run since his injury means question marks remain over how badly Arsenal actually need him.

“When you’re out for a long time the game goes on and the club has to move forward.

“They’ve been doing great, got the results they needed and are in a great position in the league.”

Manchester City have been linked with a summer bid for the midfielder, but rumours were rubbished by Arsène Wenger.

“We are not in a position to sell our best players,” retorted the Arsenal manager.

And Wilshere feels that faith that Wenger still has in him.

“It’s tough to get back in but I know the manager trusts me so hopefully I’ll get some more game time this season.”

Wilshere may start on Wednesday with some rotation expected for the game against Sunderland.

If so, he’ll be looking to force his way back into the side ahead of the FA Cup Final at the end of the month.

More than anything, though, he just needs a full pre-season ahead of the next campaign.
