Wenger: Yes, he’s surprised me!

After scoring a brace against Hull, Arsene Wenger has admitted that Alexis Sanchez’s goalscoring antics this season have surprised him.

Helped by a massive deflection, Alexis scored his first from a direct free-kick while his second came after a laser-guided pass from Aaron Ramsey.

Speaking to a reporter after the game, Wenger admitted that he expected Alexis to be more of a provider than a goalscorer.

“Yes (he has surprised me) because I expected him to be more provider than goalscorer, especially as I play him more on the flank where you have less chances,” the boss said. “The timing and quality of his runs are great and he gets into the positions to finish.”

Alexis now has 24 goals for the season (and 11 assists), his first in a new country where he didn’t speak the language with a new club in a new, more intense league.

Money well spent?

You better believe it!
