Although it’s still mathematically possible for Arsenal to clinch second place, bar Manchester City messing up in their remaining fixture, it’s looking more likely that the Gunners will take third.
Arsene Wenger has said that despite this, we must still push to win our remaining fixtures, not just to optimise our chances of nabbing second place, but to go into the FA Cup final in good form.
“It is very important for us to go into the FA Cup with a winning mode and good confidence level. These games are under huge pressure so it is important we have a good level of confidence,” the boss said.
“We have the possibility of taking six points but it will not be enough if Manchester City win their last game against Southampton. That is likely. How much chance do we have? I don’t know. The only chance we have is to win our games.”
He also highlighted the importance of naming an unchanged team, a luxury he’s had due to lack of injuries over the last couple of months.
“We had positive games and positive results, and there is no need to change. I believe we have a stability at the moment that brings us as well good cohesion in the team.”
Wenger continued, “That is vital when you go into the final part of the season. I always change players, and I can change one or two but never six or seven.”
After a loss at home to Swansea City and a draw away at Old Trafford, Arsenal will be looking to get maximum results from our remaining two fixtures against Sunderland and West Bromich Albion.
Getting back to winning ways before the cup final is huge because I don’t think we’re in for an easy ride that day.
