Arsene Wenger was delighted with his side’s win over Hull on Monday night.
Watching his side at their fluid best, the boss was was full of praise for the dynamism they showed throughout the game but couldn’t quite get his head around how the goals came about.
“I’m very happy with the performance,” the boss told Sky Sports, “because we had a fluid game, pacey and created a number of chances and the quite amazing thing was the two goals were scored with deflections and the clear cut chances we could not score.”
Although Hull gave Arsenal a momentary scare in the second half when they scored (after a clear foul in the build-up that Lee Mason just ignored, probably because he didn’t even notice it), Arsenal were able to deal with the rest of the half with a mature calmness that has started to encompass this team since their result at the Etihad earlier in the season.
No longer playing like three-legged puppies on acid when defending, they never looked under threat and thoughts of Anderlecht or Newcastle, when big halftime leads had been blown, were as far from the minds of Gooners as I think they’ve ever been.
Watching his midfield trio of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil deliver Wengerball of the highest quality, the boss added “They [Cazorla and Ramsey] were influential on the gaols, on the build up. In midfeld we played very well, Ozil had a great game.”
