Arsene Wenger believes that Alexis Sanchez should be player of the season not Eden Hazard.

The Chelsea man won the PFA award with Alexis not even placing in the top three of the idiots vote, but Wenger believes that there is still a chance that the Chilean could pick up the Writer’s award which, while not as prestigious, would still be recognition for the immense impact he has had since arriving at the club in the summer.

Speaking at his pre-Hull press conference, the boss was asked how close the race between the two should be.

“Very close”, Wenger stated emphatically. “He had a big impact and let’s not forget that for Eden Hazard it’s not the first season but for Alexis Sanchez it’s the first season and so he will give him a fight. If he doesn’t make it this year he will give him a fight as well for next season.”

When asked to confirm that Alexis would indeed be his choice, he replied “It’s necessarily my choice because he’s my player.”

Looking at just stats in the Premier League, Alexis has one more goal than Hazard despite playing four fewer games and three of the Chelsea man’s goals coming from the spot. They both have eight assists yet somehow the footballers in England believe Hazard is the best in the country and Alexis is not even in the top three.

As I said, idiots.
