Reports emerged on Thursday that Tony Adams is involved in a consortium that wants to take over Aston Villa.

The centreback, along with Paul Smith, a former executive at Chelsea, are seeking to raise the capital that would enable them to purchase the club from Randy Learner. IMG, the sports rights agency, are also said to be involved.

Needing to raise around £75m in new equity to allow them to finance a deal for the club, they have already approached a number of investment and equity firms over the past few weeks while the remainder of the money needed to finance such a takeover would probably come in the form of debt.

Halo, the company which is said to have been formed by Adams and Smith, is expected to be at the forefront of the bid as well as being involved in buying minority stakes in other ‘leading football clubs‘ with Sporting Lisbon and Inter Milan said to be on their hitlist.

Also looking at leagues in Brazil and Belgium, Halo is hoping to form “a long supply chain of playing talent”, a source told Sky Sports.

It is widely known that Villa is for sale.

As he waits for the money to come through, Mr. Arsenal has certainly been enjoying himself.
