Thierry Henry hasn’t impressed too many with some of his comments on Super Sunday, and had plenty of praise for Chelsea legend Frank Lampard this weekend.

Arsenal’s all-time top goalscorer was more than complimentary when talking about the career Lampard, now of Manchester City, has enjoyed in the Premier League.

“I remember playing against him while he was at West Ham.

“I never thought he was going to be the player he became.”

Henry’s 228 goals for Arsenal seems untouchable, with the Frenchman blowing away the previous record of 185 goals scored by Ian Wright. In 1997 Wright broke Cliff Bastin’s record of 176 goals, which had stood for 50 years.

In 2013 Lampard broke the all-time Chelsea goalscoring record, and eventually netted 211 goals for the club from midfield.

“You could see he’d have a career, but the career he had is all down to hard work. You need a certain quality to reach a certain level, but he is a great example of working hard.

“It’s difficult to replicate what Messi does but Lampard is an example of how far you can go with hard work.”

In December a goal against Leicester City took Lampard level with Henry’s very own Premier League tally of 175 goals, and one goal since has taken him above the Arsenal legend.

Clearly Lampard has done so in more games (608 in the Premier League, compared to Henry’s 254) but he has also scored that many from midfield – his achievements shouldn’t be overlooked.

Lampard’s success should be an example to all young professionals looking to make the most of their abilities.
