Could the Gunners legitimately be signing a Manchester City midfielder on a free?

There have been murmurings doing the rounds in the media that Man City midfielder, James Milner, could be on his way to the Emirates, but up until this point, they mostly seemed to be unsubstantiated.

Daily Cannon reported just last month that the Blue could soon become a Red, with Arsenal being his preferred club after his contract runs outwith City this summer. However, with a few clubs, both in the Premier League and in Europe, interested, it’s hard to see what we could offer him that no one else could.

However, interestingly, while on live on Sky, ex-Arsenal striker Alan Smith reportedly said the 29-year-old was on his way to the Gunners this summer.

Now, there’s no real proof that Smith knows any more than we do at this point and at the time he qualified his statement with ‘that’s the rumour’ so it’s not clear if he ahs inside knowledge or knows at least a little more than us.

I’m still taking this one with a pinch of salt, but the pinch has got a little smaller – and it would make a change for one of their players to come to us instead of the other way around, that’s for sure.
