With silly season almost upon us, our resident French expert takes a look at the latest players from Wenger’s homeland to be linked with the Gunners in the French press.

The French u17 side has just won their age group Eurosin Bulgaria, and that side includes a familiar name in goalkeeper Lucas Zidaneas well as the tournament’s top scorer, Odsonne Edouard, who scored a hat-trick in the final game against Germany and netted a total of eight goals in the competition.

They also feature the player with the highest number of assists, Abel Bouttoba, a youngster who has already made his debut in the Ligue 1 with Olympique de Marseille.

France Football has revealed that the most complete player in that team is now being chased by the biggest Premier league teams – Dayot Upamecano.

Upamecano is a 16-year-old centreback playing for Valenciennes Anzin who, according to the reports, has a physical and psychological maturity beyond his actual age.

The top clubs vying for his signature, as well as Arsenal, include Manchester United, Manchester City, and Paris St Germain who are all planning to bid and offer the youngster a contract according to the report.

 

This story has been bubbling for a while now but it seems to be finally gaining a little bit of traction.

It will certainly be interesting to see who will win the race for his signature and whether Wenger’s reputation will once again help him see off clubs with bigger chequebooks.
