Reports emerged over the weekend that Charlton will listen to offers for 17-year-old Joe Gomez who has attracted the attentions of Arsenal.

The young defender, who can play at either right-back or as a central defender, would certainly be a canny addition to the ranks and with Carl Jenkinson set to leave the club this summer, Gomez would certainly represent a future star that could take his place.

Gomez signed a three-year deal with the Addicks in November and has surpassed all that was expected of him, making over 20 appearances for the side this season.

Arsenal’s reported interest in the player is not new, we’ve been linked with him since he was just 15 and watched him as he made appearances for England at u16, u17, and u18 level.

It would certainly make a lot more sense to see the club move for Gomez, who is believed to cost around £8m, than many of the more senior defenders they have been linked with given the emergence of Hector Bellerin and the very recent arrival of Mathieu Debuchy.
