Arsenal have reportedly been offered Edinson Cavani along with a number of other clubs.
As reports surfaced this weekend that Cavani had handed in a transfer request, it didn’t take long for it to be claimed that he was being pimped around the Premier League.
Claims that appeared in the Mail on Sunday suggested that his agent is repeating what he did in January when there were no takers with the hopes of securing a move for his client when the transfer window opens.
Quite how much truth there is to all of this is hard to say.
I’m very sceptical of the claims regarding the transfer request, mostly because footballers no longer make those these days, nor do they have to.
Scared of losing their ‘loyalty‘ bonus, they often turn to other methods to force their way from a club. At a time when the player holds all the power, regardless of his contract, transfer requests are a relic that are rarely used.
As for the claim that he’s being offered to clubs, that’s more believable. Whether Arsenal decide to act upon the offer is another matter entirely.
A third marquee summer signing? It’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
