Are Arsenal really moving for Anthony Martial?

The latest young French progeny to be linked to Arsenal is one somewhat familiar to Arsenal fans after the loss in the last 16 of the Champions League to AS Monaco, indeed, he set up Dimitar Berbatov’s goal in the first leg.

A 19-year-old French forward, Martial has been making waves in France since his move from Lyon to Monaco in 2013 for €5m, and it seems that Arsene Wenger sees something he likes in the under-21 international (a tall French striker from Monaco, sound familiar?).

Martial, who has scored nine goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season, has helped push Monaco to 4th in Ligue 1, and is their second highest goal scorer behind Berbatov.

With Wenger’s well known links to AS Monaco this would surely give him a leg up over other clubs should the opportunity to sign the player occur.

However what this would mean for the Arsenal career of the other French under-21 star Yaya Sanago is anyone’s guess. A player that Arsene Wenger has high hopes for, could the Arsenal manager really bring in a player that would put his place in jeopardy?

It’s unlikely, but given that Arsenal will likely need to replace Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell, there is certainly room in the squad for the striker the club are said to be seeking.

Then again, if we even buy just 1% of the strikers we’ve been linked with recently, where would Wenger put all the attacking midfielders he’s also buying?
