After a static 0-0 draw against Chelsea at the weekend, the Arsenal boss spoke about how Jose Mourinho’s tactic of essentially parking the bus was no surprise to anyone.

In his post-match press conference, Arsene Wenger echoed the general feeling of Arsenal fans everywhere.

“We were disappointed,” he revealed. “We wanted to win but we didn’t manage to score.”

The Arsenal manager believed we should’ve won and if we’d been a bit more deadly in the final third, we would have.

“I think we did enough to win the game today and Chelsea defended well. I felt that we played with the right intensity in the first half. We dropped that in the second half and came back to the right level in the last 20 minutes. We could have finished the game off. Ozil had a good chance in the final minute of the game.”

He was also quick to ‘praise‘ Chelsea’s defending style, despite it not coming as any particular surprise.

“They came to defend well, did it well and everybody knows that.”

The defending Wenger refers to involves Chelsea sitting back and essentially taking the sting out of Arsenal attacks, preventing the Gunners from using their creativity to break them down and score. A style which Mourinho has become renowned for.

It’s not the most entertaining to watch – as we all witnessed yesterday – but it’s got Chelsea sitting pretty at the top of the table, 10 points ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal in second and third.
