Recently it’s seemed as if Carl Jenkinson’s time as an Arsenal player was coming to an end.

Enjoying a great loan spell with West Ham, the fullback and lifelong Gooner has seen Mathieu Debuchy come into the club as well as Calum Chambers while Hector Bellerin has stepped up in ways that hardly anyone thought possible this season.

Getting better with every game, the young Spaniard is set to commit his future to Arsenal until 2019 with Arsene Wenger confirming at his press conference on Friday that the rumours about a new contract were indeed true.

He was then asked if the contract would impact on Carl’s future as a Gunner, to which Wenger replied “Will it impact on Carl Jenkinson? At the moment in my head, no.”

Although practically every Arsenal fan loves Jenks, if for no other reason than his own love of the club, it’s really hard to see where he fits in this Arsenal side from next year.

There are reports that Arsenal will demand £10m for him should they decide to sell him.

Given the player has spoken about how much he is enjoying playing regularly, it’s doubtful he will return to the club to be a bit-part player, especially not after nailing down the first-team spot with the Hammers.

His future is far from clear but, despite what Wenger says, it is doubtful that it will be at Arsenal.

I hope I’m wrong.
